Academic Breakdown for April and into May

PHOTO UPDATE
So, after a few failed attempts to post massive amounts of individual pictures to the our Blog I have scaled back the images and events and created a smaller slide show of events "What we have been up to lately . . ." Please see the photo slideshow in the space below.

On to academics -

MATH-  For the last two weeks I have been overlapping the ending of our Geometry Unit with the beginning of the Number Sense and Numeration Unit.
The Geometry Unit ended very successfully Wednesday with the unit end quiz.
The next few weeks will focus on solidification of working with numbers to 100.
-adding and subtracting
-representing numbers to 100
-solving word problems using pictures numbers and words
-beginning of multiplication - groupings, arrays, repeated addition
-beginning of division - dividing items into equal groupings
-finding missing numbers - 9 + ____ = 23,  12- ____ = 5
-Money

LANGUAGE ARTS -
WRITING
-Wrapping up narrative writing - preparing for parent/guardian visit
-Letter Writing
-Procedural Writing
-Persuasive Writing
READING
-Reading Groups
-reading with parents and grandparents
MEDIA LITERACY - filming Fairy Tale Narratives using Smart Notebook and iMovie software

SOCIAL STUDIES - Canada and the World - Where are we in our World?
end of April begin research into Canadian Holidays and Festivals - Toonik Time, Calgary Stampede, etc.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION -
-Co-operative games
-Ball sports
- Outdoor experiences

HEALTH
-planning a healthy party
-good sportsmanship - team goals

DRAMA
-Plays - In the end of April, beginning of May we will begin our second round of plays. I have borrowed a number of Readers Theatre stories from Connaught.  I will be working with the students on roles, lines, performing, a few small props and costumes with hopes of presenting the end of May.
